We believe Life Groups are one of the best places to foster significant relationships and growth with each other. They provide a great way to connect with a smaller group of people that are brought together by topics/interests, activities, meals, and fellowship. Life Groups are a safe place to be known, encouraged, celebrated, and challenged. The format and atmosphere of each Life Group will be different depending on the leaders and the people in the group, but they all exist to help people connect with each other and with God.

Christmas at the Movies: Jesus Came to Redeem Us

Tim Hobson, Lead Pastor

Memory Verse:
Titus 2:14 (Jesus) gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Reclamation: the act or process of reclaiming. Jesus has come to reclaim us by redeeming us!

We, too, are living in darkness, sin and bondage when we are living without God. Sin destroys us. It controls us. Sin enslaves us.

Our souls are starving for true life. We need redemption.

2 Corinthians 4:4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

Matthew 16:26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?

Matthew 6:19-21 Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Hebrews 9:27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.

Our life consists of a limited amount of years made up of days, hours, minutes and seconds. What do these days add up to in a person’s life? What quantifies a good life? The # of years we live or how we live them? What makes a life significant? Does it matter how I live this life and what I do with the time I am given?

Titus 2:14 (He) gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

It is through our redemption in Christ that we are empowered to do these good works that produce rewards for us in Heaven.

1 Peter 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

You and I belong to God. He is our Redeemer and He has Reclaimed us as his children!

Christmas is all about Jesus coming to redeem us out of our sin. He is the only one capable of this great miracle!

And what is our response to the revelation that our redemption is outside of our own capacity? What is our response to our sin? Do we continue to harden our hearts? Do we continue to play the victim to other’s sin against us and legitimize our wickedness? Do we muster our pride and falsely continue to live as if we can be self-reliant? Or do we repent, humble ourselves before Almighty God and surrender our lives to Him? Will you surrender to Him today? Will you pledge your life to Him?

John 1:29 Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

God will restore your significance, your joy, your relationships, your life!
We serve the God of 2nd chances! Hallelujah!

A Prayer for you...
May you open your heart to be redeemed by God…bought back from sin’s grip with the price of Jesus’ own blood. May God reclaim you for His purposes and reveal His image upon you. And may you live a life of great significance as you bear the image of God to those around you and as you do the good works God has created you to do in Christ Jesus!

Life Group Discussion
1. Discuss the verse of the week. Titus 2:14 (Jesus) gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
2. Is it possible to have salvation without transformation?
3. How do good works fit into our faith? Where do they come from? What role does our good works play?
4. How do you think your life will be measured/judged by God when you die? What do you think will matter most in that moment when you stand before God?
5. Does your life matter? Does it matter how you live your life? Why?
