We believe Life Groups are one of the best places to foster significant relationships and growth with each other. They provide a great way to connect with a smaller group of people that are brought together by topics/interests, activities, meals, and fellowship. Life Groups are a safe place to be known, encouraged, celebrated, and challenged. The format and atmosphere of each Life Group will be different depending on the leaders and the people in the group, but they all exist to help people connect with each other and with God.

40 Days In The Word: Inspiration: Why Can I Trust the Bible? part 2

Tim Hobson, Lead Pastor

Memory Verse: Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

Why Can I Trust the Bible?
1. The Bible is historically accurate.

2. The Bible is scientifically accurate.

3. The Bible is prophetically accurate.
In others words, what the Bibles says will happen, has happened, is happening and will happen. It always comes true. The Bible is 100% accurate in prophecy.

2 Peter 1:20-21 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

4. The Bible is thematically unified.
Luke 24:27 And beginning with Moses (first 5 books of the Bible) and all the Prophets (the rest of the OT), he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

The pictures, the metaphors, the analogies, the allusions...everything is about Jesus and points to Jesus. The OT is not just about Israel and the NT about Jesus...the whole Bible is about Jesus!

John 5:39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me.

5. The Bible is confirmed by Jesus.
Matthew 5:18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Jesus is saying that the scriptures can be counted on as true. All of scripture is true and reliable. Jesus always confirmed the scriptures as he taught his listeners. I trust Jesus.

Luke 11:28 Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.

6. The Bible has survived all attacks.
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

1 Peter 1:24-25 All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.

God's truth will always be truth and will never pass away!

7. The Bible has transforming power.
John 8:31-32 If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Life Group Discussion Questions
1. Discuss the memory verse for the week.
Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

2. Briefly discuss any prophecies that you can recall that Jesus fulfilled.

3. Share examples from the Old Testament where you can see a connection to Jesus.
Examples:
Where do you see Jesus in the Passover ceremony?
Where do you see Jesus in the manna in the desert?
Where do you see Jesus in the sacrificial system?
Where do you see Jesus in the creation story?
Where do you see Jesus in the story of Abraham offering up Isaac?
4. How has the Bible transformed your life?

5. Discuss Psalm 19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

6. How are you doing with the challenges of memorizing a scripture verse each week and having a daily devotional? Does anyone have anything to share from what they read, studied or learned this week from the Bible.
